Athens Area Chamber of Commerce Programs
- Tennessee Scholars Program -
In cooperation with the McMinn County School System, the State of Tennessee, Tennessee Wesleyan College and Cleveland State Community College the program is now implemented in the McMinr County and McMinn Central High Schools. The Tennessee Scholars initiative is a business led, rewards and incentives campaign that encourages students to take a more rigorous and challenging course of study in high school. The Tennessee Scholars curriculum provides an education that better prepares students to enter a university, community college, technical or vocational school, the military or the workforce.
Tennessee Scholars are high school student who have completed the Tennessee Scholars Course of Study, a specific sequence of academic courses in math, science, language arts, and social studies. Tennessee Scholars initiative is based on the data that proves that larger percentages of students who complete a more rigorous course of study in high school are more successful in college and the workforce.
As Tennessee Scholars, students are recognized by teachers, parents and community leaders as students who accept challenges and set high goals for success. Tennessee Scholars are stronger candidates for certain types of financial aid and scholarships. Businesses offer many incentives to scholars who stay on track during all four years of high school. Seniors are honored at graduation with special graduation recognition.
- Health & Safety Expo -
The Expo is an annual event created and provided to offer an educational and networking opportunity between the healthcare professionals, safety providers and other service providers in our region with the general public.
- Dairy Festival -
Dairy Festival Organized some 30 years ago to recognize the Dairy Industry and Dairy Farmers it continues to be a favorite event for local residents, as well as annual visitors in June. Participation involves community leaders, the general public, families with children, farmers exhibitors, 4-H clubs, entertainment and approximately 75 volunteers for a one-day event which has sewed to form a partnership lasting throughout the years.
- Leadership McMinn -
The program, designed to prepare Tomorrow's Community Leaders, continues to be the premier Leadership Development Program of the Chamber. Now in it's 19th year the class continues to be as diversified as those in the past. It is composed of representatives from all walks of life in our community: Retirees; Industry; Civic Clubs; Education; Services; Government; Retail; Financial; etc . Many of the community leaders of today are graduates of the nine-month program. Myone seeking education on all phases of our community should not miss the opportunity to enroll! More Information
- McMinn Tomorrow -
A spin-off of the Chambers Leadership McMinn Program, the "McMinn Tomorrow" program was developed for fostering the future generation of community leaders. Ten dynamic students from each of our county high schools complete an 8-week course covering, History, Education, Governmental, Services, and Industry to reach the greatest achievement possible. The program creates a school-business partnership, which fulfills a variety of needs in educating our future leaders. Our community's ability to grow and improve the quality of life is definitely linked to our quality of education and this program definitely provides that linkage. More Information.
